12/18/2004: "Saturdays - Don't You Just Love Saturday Mornings?"
mood: Chowy-Chowy Chowy Chowy

Nothing is nicer at our house than Saturday mornings.
We all get up very early here. Here I am trying to teach the silly Shar-Pei how to roll over.
Gadzouks! She's a stubborn one!
I'm all excited. Today is Merlin Chowy Cookie Morning !
We're baking cookies today.

Saturday mornings are usually a fun time at our house. We all get up early because we've got to do our morning things outside.... usually 6:00 am. Human never goes back to bed once she's up. The shar-pei has alot of trouble crawling out of bed in the morning, uses all kinds of excuses NOT to go outside, and generally still makes everyone work.
Saturday mornings at this house is a time for play, lounging around and no one has to get dressed. We all play together. Me, MeiMei, Human and the teenager. We all roll around on the floor and have a great time. Human lights the fireplace to make everything cozy and warm, then she starts to bake bread, cookies and all kinds of other goodies.
MeiMei is always trying to take my toys. When I don't give them up, she bites me in the head, on my feet and my tail.
We're on our best behaviour. We know Christmas is just around the corner, and I want that big bone I saw in the pet store the other day. I also want my own private chow house, so I can chew on my bone is peace and tranquility. No Shar-Pei allowed in my new Chow House.... no way!
Even though that MeiMei makes me mad, I still love her and I let her jump all over me. Sometimes she thinks I'm a bed, so she lays right on top of me. If she gets cold, I lay down and let her snuggle up to me very close so she can stay warm. We love to cuddle. Anyone who says Chows are cold people are wrong indeed!
I'm looking forward to Christmas. This morning Human is baking my favorite doggie biscuits for the Christmas Holidays. I can smell them in the oven and it's driving us crazy. I can't wait to get my teeth in them. Human makes up nice little bags and hangs them on the neighbour's doors for their dogs. They are really good cookies!
Sheesh..... More Christmas Tree pictures.
Feels like we've been standing here under this tree forever. Apparently we have to take a lot of pictures to send to our friends and relatives who live far away.
I asked human to give you the Merlin Chowy Cookie Recipe so here it is. I hope you'll find time to make some cookies for your doggie too!
MERLIN's CHOWY COOKIES RECIPE
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (white flour if you really must)
3/4 cups of natural oatmeal
1/4 cup of wheat germ
1/3 cup of peanut butter (ok to use un-sweetened or diabetic peanut butter)
1/4 cup of vegetable oil or wild salmon oil - krill oil or 3-fish oil*
(*using fish oil makes for quite the smell when baking)
2 tblsp of honey
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup of water
GLAZE:
1 large egg
2 tblsp of milk
Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F
In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients (except GLAZE ingredients)
Mix everything together until thoroughly combined. I find it easiest to use my paws.
Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick and use your favorite cookie-cutters, or hand shape little Merlins.
Apply glaze to tops of your Merlin shaped biscuits
Place on a greased cookie pan and bake for 30 minutes. Flip them all over and bake for another 20-30 minutes. Your Chows will love them. Seems that Shar-Pei love them too! Seems that all dogs love them!
TA - DA !
The fruits of our hard morning work!
Here are our gift bags all nicely wrapped complete with cards and bows and candy canes.
(The candy canes are for the envious Humans)
This is a great way to impress all your chow friends and a welcomed treat for any canine owner.
Even the fussiest chow doesn't turn a nose to these yummies
Now I get to go outside for a walk and we'll deliver all of our bags of cookies.
I'll get to say hello to all my canine friends at the same time.
