"Where To Begin?? Where To Begin??"

We're still all speechless.
We have so much to tell you. Both good and bad.
So many things happened to us in August.
Where To Begin?? Where To Begin??


August 2005 was the hottest month on record in our fair city.
Day after day we enjoyed amazingly hot, picture perfect weather. It was as if Summer would never stop. It was as if we moved our home to a new location filled with every lasting tropical dreams, fun and song. Did we ever have fun. *We had much fun... until the day of August 21st, 2005.*

On that day our lives changed forever!
It was so hot, we went to the beach for a swim. We sat, rolled, and drank the cooling refreshing water. We stayed there longer than usual as it was so so hot. We went home around 2:00 pm to go to yet another Summer BBQ on our street.


Something happened at 2:30...... I became very, very ill and started flopping on the floor like a fish out of water. Human was mesmerized and in shock

At 3:05, my little sister Mei Mei tried to copy me and started flopping all over the place. Her seizure so intense, he hind leg fractured................................

To the emergency hospital we went.

Making A Long Story Short
Both Mei Mei and I were poisoned. We are not sure how, why or when, but we now believe that someone dumped glycol, (Prestone), into the beach water that day and we drank it in when we went swimming. At first no one was sure,... but several Humans saw a real piece of *&^$@!%* come and dump it near the beach the day before.. they also found the empty container. At first we were told it was possible we were playing with toads (Bufo Americanus), then it was speculated that it was plants.... we are not sure at all.

I am a very strong, healthy chow, only had one mild seizure, and was left with a few days of the "runs", a bad, bad tummy ache, but I am well. My beloved little sister Mei Mei is was no so lucky. MeiMei went into actue renal failure, developed ventricular arythmia and non idiopathic elipectic seizures. Her life is now in limbo and everyone's heart is broken including mine!

Back Home
We are back at home now recovering and hating Humans who can't or won't respect the environment.

Human says we have to take things day by day. Mei Mei will have some good days, and some bad days.
We tried to be happy when we are with her. We hide our fears from her so she doesn't know how scared we are for her.

Our lifestyle has changed and so has our home. We hope to give Mei Mei every possible chance of survival.


Mei Mei is finally eating food again and is starting to look and feel good.


I live eating... I just love eating.


I let Mei Mei chew on my tail after dinner. It hurts but I don't care. She's allowed to play with me today.

MeiMei can no longer do Search & Recue. Her career has ended.
She has to be careful with other things to. We can't let her swim anymore.
She could have a seizure while she's in the water.
We will have to find other things for Mei Mei to do.

Merlin, I lost my beloved baby two years ago to antifreeze poisoning. HE was delibritly fed it and he suffered for two long days before finally succumbing. I know how scared and sad you must be. My prayers are with you and your little sister. Blessings from Alabama.
