12/23/2006: "Christimas is a time to share Joy and Happiness"

wreath (13k image)
Christimas is a time to share Joy and Happiness, a time to spread goodwill, a time to give thanks for many things and a time to put smiles on faces where ever we can. Partner in crime, Dawn-I-Poo and I couldn't think of a better way to spend the day, then to go visit Granny Ruth!

Last week a desparate email arrived at our cyber-doorstep by granddaughter Gina, who says in her email:
"Can I rent a sharpei for 30 minutes? My Grandma is 83 years old, and it's her life long dream to be with and spend time with a real Chinese Shar-pei!".

Needless to say, that really raised our eye-browes and when I called and spoke to Gina, and got the whole story, well, how could we say no to that? Today we hopped in our car with April-May and MeiMei, the two smoochy-woochie pei-pei, and headed into town this rainy day.

Grandma Ruth didn't know about our visit. It was to be a total surprise! - and so it was. When Grandma Ruth opened up her front door, she let out a pei yodel that only a pei owner could appreciate. Grandma Ruth couldn't believe her eyes. She really thought she was opening the door to accept delivery of "some dumb Christmas plant". Did we laugh when we heard that!

Tears of happiness were everywhere! Grandma Ruth just couldn't contain her surprise, nor her love for shar-pei. Granddaughter Gina made us each a cup of tea while we presented Grandma Ruth with a shar-pei calendar and tea towel, (thanks so much Dawn-I-Poo), and some chocolates and a framed little pei picture.

Her hands now stuffed with pei-memorabilia, Grandma Ruth didn't hesitate to take full advantage of our visit and showered the two pei girls with love. They were petted, hugged and squeezed and told all kinds of, 'sweet nothings'. A true "MOM", before we knew it, Grandma Ruth grabbed a towel and was already cleaning, "eye-gookies", before the tea arrived!! now that's true pei-love if I ever saw it.

One thing's for sure, we know we now have a wonderful pei-sitter! Grandma Ruth wanted to know if we were leaving the pei there for the holidays!

The closest Grandma Ruth ever came to a sharpei was this poster that Gina managed to get from a DuMoulin Electronique store last year, and the local pet shop owner had a sharpei of his own.

We did let Grandma Ruth know that we would come back to visit soon, and we did invite Ruth and Gina to one of our Shar-Pei Meetups so that she can walk amongst the basketfuls of shar-pei. We can't wait, and I betcha neither can they!

Gina, your truly love your grandmother, and your efforts paid off, and as Grandma Ruth said, this was her "best ever", gift of a lifetime!!!

We are flattered, proud and glad to have been part of the, "Best Ever", gift and look forward to seeing you again real soon.
Merry Christmas Ruth, Gina and family!

Stay tuned.... more pics to come
They weren't ready yet at the time of this printing (Maybe tomorrow).

One thing's for sure... Therapy Dog work.... we love it!!! Makes people smile no matter what!
Now, if only we could get King Merlin to do that... wouldn't that be amazing!
Are you suffering from chowpei angst? Call us... we'll be there in a flash!

Well, you Pei Girls are just great. Thank you so much for doing this nice "gift" for G. Ruth. This is something very special for me to read about.

I once took a Chow pup to the hospital to visit a friend. I sneaked the pup in my purse to the bedside for him to pat on the head. Was a great visit.

What a pleasant surprise! At first, when I saw Grandma Ruth, I though it was for ME, as my Hebrew name is Ruth! Then I realized it was another Grandma Ruth! What a lucky lady she is! What lucky Pei girls to get another person added to their long list of admirers!
Merry Christmas to all..all my love to Merlin! BBinNC:)

That was a nice present for Ruth. Therapy Dogs really bring joy to those they visit. And I think the dogs enjoy doing this. I don't know any reason King Merlin couldn't also do this work: My wife Eve has three Chows certified as Therapy Dogs, who visit patients in hospitals and Nursing homes, and participate with the special kids in the programs at schools.
