12/06/2007: "Merlin's Chowy Cookies"

music: Dashing through the snow...
mood: It's that time of year again!

Every year at this time of the year I send around Merlin's world famous
recipe for Merlin's Chowy Cookies, (guaranteed to please even the most
discerning, fussy palatte) Have fun They make excellent gifts too!
Each year I bake up dozens, pack several in small bags and hand them out to
my canine friends as gifts!!!!

wwwIMG_0981 (74k image)
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (white flour if you really must)
3/4 cups of natural oatmeal
1/4 cup of wheat germ
1/3 cup of peanut butter (ok to use un-sweetened or diabetic peanut butter)
1/4 cup of vegetable oil or wild salmon oil - krill oil or 3-fish oil*
(*using fish oil makes for quite the smell when baking)
2 tblsp of honey
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup of water
(optional: toss in 1/3 cup flax seeds)

GLAZE:
1 large egg
2 tblsp of milk

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F

In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients (except GLAZE ingredients)
Mix everything together until thoroughly combined. I find it easiest to use
my paws.
Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick and use your favorite
cookie-cutters, or hand shape little Merlins.

Apply glaze to tops of your Merlin shaped biscuits

Place on a greased cookie pan and bake for 30 minutes. Flip them all over
and bake for another 20-30 minutes. Your Chows will love them. Seems that
Shar-Pei love them too! Seems that all dogs love them!

Happy Holidays
